Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any out-of-pocket costs?

After all state and federal grants are applied, based on your FAFSA application, HIU will cover the remaining cost of your tuition and student fees (does not include the cost of textbooks and course materials).

What is the required course load?

To be eligible, you must be full time, taking 4 classes (12 units) in a 16-week period. Each class is worth 3 units.

Students will take 2 classes the first 8 weeks, and then start 2 new classes for the remaining 8 weeks. Classes are available on demand, 24/7, allowing students to complete their course work and assignments on their own schedule.

Is a high school diploma required?

Students must have either obtained a high school diploma or their GED before taking classes, but you can apply prior to graduation. Official proof of completion must be submitted prior to starting this program.

Is there a minimum GPA required for admission?

YES: Freshman GPA Requirement: 2.50 (Weighted Academic 9th – 12th GPA).

Transfer GPA Requirement: 2.00 (Weighted Academic Cumulative GPA)

Choose from Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Liberal Studies: Teacher Preparation, and Christian Ministry

  1. Submit your free online application.
  2. Complete your 2026-2027 FAFSA application. Hope International University’s FAFSA code is 001252.
  3. Submit your official transcripts from all previously attended schools. Digital transcript(s) can be sent to hiuadmissions@hiu.edu or mail physical transcripts to:
